Due to its location on the westernmost part of Vancouver Island, Tofino faces the Pacific Ocean, unimpeded by any mountains to the west and therefore not subject to a rain shadow effect like much of the eastern island and the BC interior.

The resort also provides access to hundreds of kilometres of off-piste skiing and back country touring. Coastal fog is a common morning phenomenon in the summer, complicating access by air until the weather clears.

Each month has a separate grand opening, usually the first Friday evening of the monthwhich includes refreshments, musicians, pan-handlers and artwork for locals and visitors to enjoy as they stroll through downtown Nelson. The last weekend of April is the Tofino Shorebird Festival.

The markets all offer regional farm produce, delicious foods, and a variety of locally hand-crafted products.
